Fishes Mugil cephalus and Carrasius auratus, received on representative stations in Saronicos gulf, nearby Athens (Greece), with high and low levels of anthropogenic pollution of the sea, as well as river Desna and river Dnepr, close Kiev (Ukraine) have been studied. Samples of liver, muscles, blood and gills tissues have been received. In a liver and muscles activity of the antioxidant enzymes connected with development of oxidizing stress, and also taking part in biotransformation of xenobiotics was defined. Blood and gills were used for preparation of cytological preparations on which determination of frequency of cells with micronuclei and double nuclei was performed, that reflects a level of genotoxic action of substances present at water. Carried out research shows an opportunity of use of a set of biochemical and cytological biomarkers for ecological monitoring of sea and fresh-water objects to reveal toxic and genotoxic actions of factors of anthropogenic pollution on water organisms.
