It is shown that at the initial stages of the formation of fluorapatite phase, there are formed CaF2 nanocrystals with a diameter of 20-40 nm. Further they play the role of the centers of nuclei formation for fluorapatite nanocrystals. Using ultrasonic treatment of aqueous solutions of the precursors, there are obtained luminescent GdPO4:Eu3+ nanopowders in the form of isolated nanocrystals of one-dimensional (nanowire with a thickness < 10 nm and a length up to 1 mcm) and two-dimensional (nanoplates with a diameter of 50-100 nm and a thickness < 10 nm) structures.
