Objects of the scientific research - the members of Araceae, Dracaenaceae, Hyacinthaceae, Bromeliaceae, Orchidaceae, Ericaceae, Theaceae families, which are maintained in glasshouses at N.N.Grishko NBG of NAS of Ukraine. The main purpose of the research was to develop the mass-propagation methods and cultivation technologies of species studied to ensure the long-term maintenance under glasshouse conditions and in in vitro culture aimed at ex situ biodiversity conservation and enrichment of plant resources of Ukraine. The results of the study - developmental biology, vegetative architecture and reproductive biology peculiarities of plants, morphogenesis in vivo and in vitro, structural adaptations and acclimatization strategies have been studied; mass-propagation methods and cultivation techniques of rare species of tropical plants have been developed. Five displays in exhibition greenhouses as an efficient tool in raising public awareness in necessity to protect rare tropical species were created. The long-term conservation of NBG fund collection of tropical plants, consisting of about 3100 taxa and having the status of National Heritage Collection, was promoted.
