Physical and mechanical characteristics and phase composition of instrumental steels depending on technological parameters of nitriding process were investigated. The technological regimes of strengthening the cutting instrument made of P6M5 steel, the wood-cutting instrument made of 9XФ steel, the press-forms made of 38XM A and 40X steel, the punches made of X12 and X12M steel were developed. The strengthened and equipped instrument was tested in industrial process. The recommendations as for the improvement of instrument wear resistance and durability were given.
