Objective - to study the impact of different doses and regimes of irradiation by X- and gamma-rays on gametogenesis and physiologycal activities of male and female gametes; to find out the spectrum of radiation damages emerging under the direct or inderect radiation action; to analyze the recovery properties of gametes dealing with liquidation of DNA breaks as well as sublethal and potentially lethal lesions. Methods - radiobiological, biochemical, morphologic, immunologic, statistical. The high radioresistance of spermatozoa has been revealed. Spermatozoa retain their motility and the capability of interaction with egg cells in the dose range 1-500 Gy. Apart from this, they are able to eliminate sublethal and potentially lethal lesions. The DNA recover in spermatozoa is absent that may cause an aneuploidization of spermatozoid genome. The doses 0,3-0,5 Gy stipulate the raise of fertilization potential of spermatozoa in conjunction with the elevation of egg cell fecundation aptitude that results in the increase of normal offspring production in laboratory rats.
