The differences of gene expression levels may be used not only for tumour diagnostics and prognosis of treatment response, but also for identification of multiple biomarkers for targeted therapy. 129 genes with more than 5-fold changes of expression level were identified by serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) in this work. 117 differentially expressed genes which have been revealed by matching of SAGE results and microarray analysis can be included in the genes list, the products of which are the potential markers for molecular classification of glial tumours, diagnostics, prognostics estimation and antitumour therapy. The differences of gene expression levels in the individual samples of astrocytic tumours of ІІ-ІV malignancy grades allow to reveal the molecular variants of glial tumours correlated with clinical manifestations. The part of these differentially expressed genes may be applied as multiple diagnostic markers - "gene signatures" for tumour prognostic estimation.
