Features of macro- and microstructure of SOFC constituents are studied. The sinterability of several ScSZ powders is investigated to define the most prospective powder composition as well as optimal sintering conditions (temperature and durability) resulting in best mechanical properties and electrical conductivity. The optimal parameters of electron beam deposition technique to produce thin electrolyte layer on porous anode are established. A model of electrolyte microcracking is developed which takes into account such factors as statistical distribution of grain sizes, stress redistribution during failure of separate structural elements and local fracture criterion of a material.
