Aim of the study: to study the intensity and character of changes in some mechanisms of apoptotic death of thyroid cells of patients with various thyroid pathology. Methods of study: biochemical, molecular-biological, morphological, statistical methods. Results and their novelty: the character and degree of abnormalities depend upon a number of factors: for extranodular tissue – upon features of follicular structure, type of structural changes and their expression; for goiter-modified thyroid tissue – upon pathology type (euthyroid or toxic goiter), gravity and presence of disease relapse, goiter size, patients’ gender; for carcinomas – upon their type (follicular, medullary, papillary), and for the latter – upon features of its histological structure, stage, and aggressiveness of tumoral growth. Data on the peculiarities of mitochondrial membrane permeability, resistance of mitochondria or deterioration in their reactionto apoptosisinducing and apoptosismodulating stimuli, as well as in caspase-3 activity and DNA fragmentation, suggest substantial abnormalities of mitochondrial and postmitochondrial pathways of apoptosis under conditions of appearance and development of thyroid disorders. The data obtained are top-priority ones, they reveal new components of the pathogenesis of pathology of different nature, its complications, and represent a basis for further investigations aimed both at determining pathogenetic importance of apoptosis and developing methods of its regulation in different thyroid disorders.
