The best hydrogen absorption-desorption properties were obtained for the Mg-20%Ti(Zr)4Fe2Ox composites synthesised by reactive milling in hydrogen. Hydrogenation of the Mg-h-phase composites were shown to proceed through two stages: quick (<5 sec) followed by a slow one, at which the Mg®MgH2 transformation rate is limited by hydrogen atoms diffusion through the layer of magnesium hydride. The Mg®MgH2 transformation level increases with the rise in hydrogenation temperature. The introduction of graphite into the composite leads to deceleration of the first hydrogenation stage, however allows reaching complete Mg®MgH2 transformation regardless of hydrogenation temperature. Crystal chemistry analysis of the Mg3MnNi2 h-phase allowed to choose a hydride structure model, which will be further studied by neutron diffraction experiment.
