Concepts of "spin", "orbital" and total energy flows are introduced; an exhaustive classification of the topological stricture and singular points of the transverse energy flows is developed. The physical nature of paraxial beams, whose transverse profile rotates spontaneously upon propagation or coercively, is studied. Rotational properties of beams formed by superpositions of the simplest helical modes are analyzed, as well as the mechanical meaning of their rotation. The theory of non-collinear rotational Doppler effect is built. Results of the work will be useful in the communication techniques, for investigation of micro-objects, in the chamical, micro- and nano-industry.
