The most significant result of the project is the development and experimental verification of a new concept of the radiation-induced production of Schottky defects, which often act in the opposite direction to that of the mechanisms based on Frenkel pair production in the bulk. The significance of this concept for the forecasting of the radiation stability of materials is that the radiation-induced production of Schottky defects, in contrast to the Frenkel defect production, results in the radiation-induced void shrinkage, i.e. "radiation-induced annealing" .
