The crystal structures of 173 ternary or quaternary compounds (among them 10 compounds are the new structure types) were determined using the X-ray single crystal and powder methods. The measurements of electric and magnetic properties were carried out for the 55 compounds. The reasons of structural deficiency in disilicides and digermanides of rare earth elements were revealed. The structure types of inorganic and intermetallic compounds with cubic, hexagonal and trigonal symmetry were systematized. The obtained results can be useful during the development of new metallic materials based on intermetallic compounds and also as a hand-book material for the specialists who are working in the branch of materials science, inorganic and physical chemistry, solid state chemistry.
