Object for investigation - thermoelectric power converters based on new thermoelement types with artificial anisotropy of electric conductivity. The purpose of the work is devising new types of anisotropic thermoelements with essentially improved characteristics based on composite, artificially anisotropic materials, development of theory for their description, theoretical and experimental research on their properties. Research methods are the methods of nonequilibrium thermodynamics of irreversible processes of energy and electric charge transport in thermoelectric materials, computer methods for simulation of interrelated physical fields in thermoelements, experimental methods for determination of parameters and characteristics of thermoelectric power conversion. Nonequilibrium thermodynamic theory of power conversion in thermoelements with artificial anisotropy of electric conductivity was developed and methods for calculation of efficiency, coefficient of performance, power output and cooling capacity were elaborated. Solutions of inverse problems of thermoelectricity for artificially anisotropic thermoelectric media were obtained that determine equipotential and isothermal surfaces for arrangement of heat sources and electric connecting elements in the design of thermoelements. Object-oriented computer models of 10 new types of artificially anisotropic thermoelements were elaborated. Computer simulation was used to determine basic temperature, electric and power characteristics of new thermoelements. Computer optimization of new thermoelement types according to geometrical, temperature, electric and power parameters was made. Sketches of optimized variants of thermoelement design for manufacture of experimental samples were created. Double-layer thermoelement with a periodically profiled surface was made and results of its computer simulation were experimentally confirmed. Scientific novelty lies in the following: innovative approaches in devising new thermoelement types based on the law of thermoelectric induction of currents; using new, hitherto unstudied, composite thermoelectric materials with electric conductivity anisotropy; using the effect of generation of transverse thermoelectromotive forces due to eddy currents in media with electric conductivity anisotropy. The elaborated theory of artificially anisotropic thermoelements is of theoretical significance and serves as a theoretical basis for the development of object-oriented computer technologies for simulation and optimization of thermoelectric devices made of composite artificially anisotropic thermoelectric materials. Results of elaboration of computer technologies for simulation and optimization of artificially anisotropic thermoelements are of applied significance and form the basis for selection of materials and design of new types of thermoelements, thermoelectric devices and systems on their basis.
