Objective: provision of medical care for old age population. Results: The followings have been found: (1) Present day organization of geriatric care and infrastructure of geriatric services are inadequate in terms of its availability and quality. (2) There is a high level of needs in different forms of medical care among elderly patients both, in urban and rural ambulatories of general practice - family medicine (GPFM) and the necessity of their interaction with social services and non-state organizations.(3) Among positive findings, work of family physician with an elderly patient is the directed at resolving various pathological events and prescribing appropriate medications thus avoiding plural medication administration. (4) The quality of health care in family medicine ambulatories does not meet elderly people's needs, and therefore there is an urgent task ofreforming and creating long-term domiciliary care services for people aged 80 years and older. (5) The necessity to change the position of a medical nurse of an ambulatory GPFM into the position of a visiting geriatric nurse, giving her the opportunity to perform medical, consultative and educational functions. (6) The necessity of intensifying multidisciplinary training of family doctors and visiting geriatric nurses according to up-to-date standards.
