Potebnja Institute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 During April 2006 - December 2008 the confrontation research of Pain semantic field in Ukrainian and Russian has been made with considertion of data from other languages, including anguages of ethnic minorities of Ukrainee. The basis of the analysis were descriotive dictionaries, corpora data for Ukrainian, informants questionnaries. The main directions of the work done are as follows. 1. The cognitive metaphors for description of Pain domain in Ukrainian were described. 2) Typical metaphors underlying predicates of Pain were established. 3) Lexical distibution of Pain predicates was analyzed. 4) The confrontaion analysis of grammar structures of Pain prediecates in languages under consideration was carried out.
