Karazin popup.description2 The subject of Research is the complex of written, oral, statistical, other sources and literature on Sloboda Ukraine, Kharkiv and Kharkiv region history and culture during XIX - early XXI cent. The purpose of Research is the analysis of theoretical and methodological aspects of the national-cultural identity study in the boundary culture context; development of the methodics of national and boundary identities studies; exploration of different social groups' national-cultural identities among the Eastern Ukraine population, and revealing of the different manifestations of the national identification in modern and postmodern Ukraine. Methods of Research are: social re/construction, oral history, historical regionalistics, cultural geography; sistem-structural and intercultural analysis of the phenomenon of national-cultural identity; historical-typological, comparative, historical-chronological, and semiotical methods of empirical data processing. Results of Scientific Research Work: as result of the work 16 papers and 1 monograph on the problems of Sloboda Ukraine history and culture and on its inhabitants' identity were published, one monograph ("Limits of Reciprocity: Identities of the Russian-Ukrainian Borderland", 12 quires) have been prepared; international scientific symposiums "Regional Capitals of Ukraine: Search for the New Identity" (March 10, 2006) and "Region, Ethnos, Nation: Problems of the Historiographic Synthesis" (Scientific Symposium dedicated to Dmytro Ivanovych Bahalij (1857 - 1932), October 4, 2007) were held. Materials of the first mentioned symposium were published in the thematic issue of the "East-West Journal": East-West Journal: Historical-Culturological Collection / Kowalsky Eastern Ukrainian Institute at al. - Vol. 9-10: Special issue: PATRIA / Ed. Sharibzhanov achieved the candidate degree for his dissertation "National Minoroties in Kharkiv during 20-30ths of the XXth Cent." (scientific adviser - V. V.Kravcheko). As a result of Research being carried out new archive and library materials were found out and processed, the study of modern identity-models was continued through the sociological polling (in 2006-2007 1278 first-year students from 9 higher educational institutions of Kharkiv were questioned), the problems of individuals' national and ethnocultural self-determining in the so-called "extreme situations", the analysis of modern theories and methodological approaches in national-cultural identities studies was made, and the perspectives of their further research in the context of multiculturalism and globalism were determined.
