The work is aimed at the determination of jamming conditions in mechanical systems with Coulomb friction and the clarification of jamming and wedging occurring possibility in some subsystems of a freight car. Methods: analytical statics and dynamics methods, methods of theory of matrices, methods of symbolic computer modeling. Results: jamming definition is formulated and the similarity between this phenomenon and an impact is considered; the impossibility of wedging in the frictional damping system of the typical car truck is shown; under interaction between the wheelset and rails in the plane, which is normal to the direction of longitudinal motion of a vehicle, jamming and wedging are also impossible with the exception of cases of violation of standards of track maintenance.
