The manual contains the information about the advanced techniques of preservation of the documents on paper carriers, and also traditional procedures of recovery of library funds, which are tested under the conditions of the Center of Preservation and Restoration of the V. Vernadskiy National Library of Ukraine. The manual is designed to provide the practical and methodological assistance to the library workers in terms of phase preservation and choice of optimal procedures of stabilization of the the documents on paper carriers with weakened material basis in relation to physical-and-chemical, biological and mechanical factors. The results of the science-applied work related to the above subject have been used for preparation of the published works and presentations for the conferences, seminars, practical works on phase preservation of the documents. In order to minimize the negative effect of the environment and to study the phase storage of the documents with the weakened material basis during the performance of the research works there were used 7291 units of the individual means of dokuments protection from the specifically selected materials. After carrying out of scientific - applied inspections of the funds the practical recommendations have been developed on introduction into practice of phase preservation of the documents. In 2008 the employees of the Center of Preservation and Restoration participated in two International scientific -and - practical conferences and seminars for the Managers of the libraries of the research institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine dedicated to the subject of preservation of library funds.
