Metal clusters and nanostructures are subjects of research. The aim of work is to describe the effects of single-electron tunnel charging and Coulomb blockade in a cluster structure. The width and the voltage asymmetry of the zero-conductance gap are calculated for the single-electron diods based on the small gold clusters. The transmission of infrared electromagnetic waves through quasi-homogeneous thin metal films is investigated within the diagonal response ap-proximation. An expression for the dielectric function is derived. The transmittance of the films is calculated. The surface tension, electron work function, and contact potential difference of elastically deformed metal faces are calculated with the help of the self-consistent Kohn-Sham method.
