The effect is highly stable with cycling, temperature and deformation rate variation. The structural mechanism of the phenomenon is determined, basing on the anomalous elastic shear modulus softening near the martensitic transformation temperature, leading to the elastic hierarchical twinning of the martensite. The effect of alloying by Fe and Cu strongly improves the mechanical properties of the single crystals, reducing the brittleness and increasing the cycling stability, simultaneously allowing shifting up the martensite transformation temperatures.
