Alpha-tocopherol, thioproline and formate treatment decreased toxic effects of azidothymidine and increased the thymocytes survival as determined by MTT analysis. The protective effect of alpha-tocopherol on azidothymidine-induced apoptosis of rat thymocytes could be explained by its ability to prevent mitochondrial dysfunction.
