It was realized by introduction of different substituents including specific groups (effectors) to the heterocyclic residues, and/or by incorporating of ethylene and vinyl bridges to the polymethine chromophore aiming the further investigation of the resulting systems as fluorescence probes for selective detection of amyloid fibrils which are generated upon neurodegenerative disorders, like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Polymethine dyes possessing of intense and selective fluorescence in the presence of protein amyloid fibrils have been worked out for the application as fluorescence probes for the detection of the species mentioned above.
