The turbostratic carbon structures (carbon black, coal) were shown to transform into diamond via amorphous phase with density intermediate between that of graphite and diamond. The structure of amorphous carbon phase is characterized by three-dimensional distribution of sp2bonds. In contrast to carbon, the turbostratic BN transforms into cubic modification directly without formation of any intermediate structures. The concentration of solid solutions in cubic BN is always higher than in wurtzite BN. In dense phases formed under shock compression conditions the concentration of solid solutions in cubic BN is essentially less than in phases formed under static high-pressure conditions.
