O.S.Kolomiychenko popup.description2 Materials - human temporal bones, patients with facial palsy, rats. Aim - recovery or amelioration of facial nerve (FN) function after trauma in the patients undergoing temporal bone surgery. Methods - clinical, morphological, analytical, statistical, experimental. FN trauma and interruption during the surgery lead to mimic muscles atrophy, mimic muscles movement disturbance and face asymmetry. A new method of FN with hypoglossal nerve neurorrhaphy proposed when distal tip of the FN sutured "end-to-end" with proximal tip of hypoglossal nerve main trunk and peripheral tip of hypoglossal nerve main trunk sutured with descending branch of the same nerve. That avoids tong atrophy and improves functional results of neurorrhaphy. After this method of neurorrhaphy patent for new model on "Method of surgical treatment for the patients with facial nerve palsy" N 3575 published 10.10.2008. Using electronic microscopy of nerve fibers in the experiment on the rats the positive effect of nerve growth factor and nimodipine on FN recovery after neurorrhaphy observed. Clinical results, electromyography data in the patients with FN palsy and paresis evaluated. Instructional recommendation composed. The results of this study may be used in the ENT and neurosurgical practice.
