Hey1nh. model plants, which have been obtained by using the methods of light, electron, and confocal microscopy, biochemistry and molecular biology, are presented. It was shown that the changes in root and leaf morphology and anatomy, cell ultrastructure, the functional state of a photosynthetic apparatus, cell homeostasis, phytohormone content and quantitative composition, gene expression, and a rate of embryogenesis and fruit germination could be related to the manifestations of phenotypic plasticity. The obtained data are considered to confirm the Shmalgausen's concept on ontogenesis evolution concerning the strategy of individual development. On the fundamentals of modern ideas on epigenetics, the possible participation og epigenetic systems in the gene expression control as the basis of plant resistance in the variable environment - acclimation to daily and seasonal fluctuations of ecological factors, and adaptation to chronic moderate action of unfavorable ecological factors.
