Object of the study is the civil society in Ukraine, its status, problems and specificity of formation in the historical retrospection, experience and lessons of the process. Subject of the study is to unveil the inherent interdependence of the status and prospects of building the civil society and the level of development of the Ukrainian nation (Ukrainian country studies) self-knowledge and self-creation science. In implementing this project, the researchers defined the objective as follows: to determine and provide the scientific rationale of the logical nature and historical appropriateness of formation of the civil society in Ukraine, among other things to explore its essence, content and fundamental principles of its building, to determine not only general (universal), but also specific (national) features and methods of its creation. The investigation activity was based on the solution of the following tasks: a) determination and substantiation of interdependence of building the civil society, its structures and socio-economic situation of the country, public conscience (self-consciousness) of its citizens; b) investigation of features of projection of community universals on the ethnic and national background; c) revealing the interrelation and interaction of essential and organizational components of the civil society; d) study of the historical dependence and length of the Ukrainian civil tradition and its significance in solving modern civil society formation problems; e) revealing the unity of the national idea and civic consciousness idea, their interaction and interference; f) comprehension of universality of manifestation of the civil idea in all spheres of life of the nation; h) revealing the importance of studying the civil society idea and particulars of its manifestation in the culture, content and structure of the national education. Theoretical and practical results: - development of the concept of the Ukraine-specific research of existing problems in the formation and development of the civil society in Ukraine. Its fundamentals are aimed at consciousness and perception by the community of the common goal, principles and methods not only in building the civil society in its general idea, but also in the logic of the specific material, spiritual and ethnic-national foundations. - preparation of recommendations aimed at strengthening the research of civil society problems and implementation of developments into scientific disciplines, education, system of personnel training and retraining, public and social life management;.
