Komisarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism оf the Academy of Medical Scienses of Ukraine" popup.description2 Summary: Object of the study: immunological indices in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) after radioiodine therapy (RIT). Aim of the study: study the outcomes of the effect of radioactive iodine used at diagnostic and therapeutic doses, on the immune system status of DTC patients. Methods: flow cytofluorimetry, immunoenzymic analysis, radiometry, spectrophotometry, immunological methods. Theoretical and practical results: based on the data of immunological monitoring of DTC patients in the process of RIT, the following changes were established: changes in subpopulation composition and immunophenotype of peripheral blood lymphocytes; a decrease in their proliferative capacity; a decrease in IL-2 production and activity; inhibition of cytotoxic activity of NK-cells and neutrophils; an increase in IL-1beta, IL-6 and CIC levels. B-lymphocytes (CD19+) were found to be more highly radiosensitive. An abnormality was revealed in the expression of activation markers HLA-DR and CD95 on lymphocytes. In the presence of distant metastases, the range and degree of immunological changes are significantly larger than in patients with regional metastases. While total radioiodine activity increases, disturbances in immune system of DTC patients aggravate. Novelty: a method of estimation of early disturbances of immune status in DTC patients after RIT was developed and patented. Advantages over existing analogs: the use of the suggested method of assessment of immune status abnormalities in DTC patients after RIT ensures a higher informativity of indices and efficacy of analysis, which allows to confirm the rationale of using immunocorrection methods in the combined treatment of patients in order to improve their life quality. Sphere of use: radiation biology, radiotherapy, oncology.
