Performers of the report investigate actual issues of the Middle Paleolithic (V.M.Stepanchuk, Yu.V. Kukharchuk), Upper Paleolithic (O.O.Krotova, L.A.Yakovleva, D.Yu.Nuzhniy, D.V.Stupak, D.O.Vetrov), Mesolithic (L.L.Zaliznyak, O.O.Yanevich), Neolithic (M.T.Tovkaylo, D.L.Gaskevich), and Paleozoology (O.P.Zhuravlev) of Ukraine and adjacent territories. Unique sites of the Stone Age epoch were discovered and excavated. Principally new decisions were proposed in fields of periodization, cultural differentiation and dating of the oldest monuments of the country. Considerable progress was achieved in studies on complex socio-economic problems of the Stone Age, and also in studies on Paleolithic art of the Europe. Studies were accompanied by numerous archaeological expeditions, introduction of obtained materials into scientific turn, and intensive publishing activity. 188 scientific publications testify to the high level of the productivity of these studies. This number includes 16 monographs (which total volume constitutes 376,5 quires), that were written and published by the performers of the theme in course of five years of its fulfilment. The Department is also reported by twelve individual chapters of the collective theme, which volume constitutes 210 quires.
