The aim of this work: to establish the quantitative parameters of the acoustic emission signals generated during crack nucleation and propagation in bridge structural elements and use this data for verification of the acoustic emission diagnostic method. Methods of study - the approaches of linear fracture mechanics, mathematic modeling, spectral analysis of acoustic emission signals, physical experiment. The algorithm for the evaluation of crack initiation and propagation during the early stages of failure in concrete and reinforced concrete under influence of different physical and chemical factors has been developed. The quantitative values for the acoustic emission signal parameters during the early stages of failure of such materials have been received experimentally. The attenuation coefficients for the propagation of elastic waves of acoustic emission in different types of structural materials have been determined. The algorithm for optimization of the acoustic emission sensor placing on the diagnosed objects have been proposed; and the recommendations for the acoustic emission diagnostics of large structural elements made of concrete and reinforced concrete have bee issued. Acoustic emission diagnostics of a number of bridges including the bridges across the rivers Dnipro and Dnister and the tunnel of the Kyiv-Chop highway have been conducted.
