Its basic constituents are i) accumulation of fundamentals of processes and mechanisms of structure formation and properties for materials of different types; ii) systematization - analysis - generalization of the fundamentals aimed at establishing the regularities of structure formation for different materials; iii) definition of requirements for the microstructure of material to be designed; iiii) the fundamentals-grounded selection of material microstructure, composition, and production conditions, iiiii) computer modeling of microstructure as well as processes of mechanisms of structure transformations which determine structure formation under sintering, and iiiiii) performance of model experiments on sintering and structure formation. An example is given concerning the use of the proposed approach in selecting the microstructure of a high temperature construction material on the basis of silicon carbide.
