Goal - based on a thorough analysis of the nature of standardization in the description, the ratio of domestic and foreign traditions of a secondary archival data, foreign practices descriptive standards, and to determine the feasibility of their implementation in practice of Ukrainian archives. Methods: common historical, comparative, logical, analysis and synthesis, systematic approach and special scientific methods to enable a comprehensive study the subject and object of study. The novelty is that was firstly analyzed the content of international descriptive standards and prove that they function as objects of similar elements components, structure and functions, described the development of narrative traditions of the Ukrainian Archives Studies, carried out detailed analysis of the structure and content of international descriptive standards-based which suggested ways and methods of their implementation in domestic practice description. Theoretical and practical results of research carried out during the translation of international descriptive standards, that allows to introduce Ukrainian archivists with the structure of descriptive articles for the international exchange of information. Studied the experience of national archives for the description of archival sources that directly relates to the need to ensure better conditions of access to them, including through the Internet. The practical significance of the research is defined in specific ways, methods, sequence of implementation of international descriptive standards in domestic practice description. Efficiency of analytical review is to didactic function, to train Ukrainian archivists with the global practice standards, prepare the basis for harmonization of international descriptive standards, and their perception as a necessary condition for the transition to the formation of a single archival information space, primarily through the creation of integrated information systems, archives, Internet-oriented technology. Field use is intended for employees of archival institutions that carry out the description of archival information resources both in traditional and in electronic format.
