It was shown that surface characteristics of the catalysts were dependent on the preparation route and pretreatment conditions and exhibited correlation with catalytic performance of the samples. Also, the effect of extended X-ray irradiation on the surface physical-chemical state of the samples was investigated. In the catalyst, interaction of Au nanoparticles with the support was found to result in a slight shift of core level spectra and changes of the valence band, X-ray induced Auger spectra and ionicity of the Ti-O bonds, compared to TiO2.
