The recommendations for determining stress and brittle fracture resistance of the WWER NPP reactor pressure vessels accounting for defects and complex thermomechanical loading are proposed. The results of calculating the stress-strain state of the welded joint between the collector and shell of PGV-1000 steam generator with allowance for defects and the history of thermomechanical loading are given. Taking into account the results obtained from the calculations for the reactor pressure vessels, the regulatory document entitled "Strength and lifetime assessment procedure for WWER reactor pressure vessels in operation" (MT-D.0.03.391-09, brought into action by NAEK "Energoatom" Directive No 705-P dated 18.08.2009) was developed. Using the procedures developed within the project, an expert technical assistance is provided for performing work on justifying the integrity and safe operation of the reactor pressure vessels for Khmelnitsky NPP (Unit 1), South Ukraine NPP (Unit 2) and Rivne NPP (Units 1 and 2).
