Investigations of the material from such patients showed that the number of CD34+ stem cells, which can be isolated from the mononuclonal leukocyte fraction, depends on the patient's diagnosis (common type acute lymphoblastic leukemia, different stages of acute myeloblastic leukemia, and so on). The responsiveness of CD34+ cells from leukemia patient's blood to the ALA-mediated photodynamic treatment is bound up with an immunophenotype of the cells which determines if the CD34+ stem cell is hemopoietic or leukemic.
