In the first time on retinal preparation firing-induced calcium signals were recorded and their characteristics were determined. It was shown that Kv3 channels prevent the cells from calcium overload during high frequency action potential firing. Voltage-activated calcium currents and intracellular calcium concentration changes caused by their activation were recorded, characteristics of appropriate calcium signals were determined. The data obtained gave theoretical base for development of new approach in normotensive open-angle glaucoma treatment. In clinical researches positive action of voltage-gated calcium channels blocker amlodipine on vision parameters and retinal blood circulation was proved.
