The use of molecular sieves (0.4 nm) for synthesis is an example of concrete use of nanotechnologies at preparative level. Procedures for the synthesis of molybdenym, copper and magnesium complexes readily soluble in organic media have been developed. All compounds have been investigated by chemical elemental analysis, IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy; the structure of the complexes has been determined by X-ray structural analysis (XSA). The tribological properties of the complexes synthesized which are part of ethyl laurate based model lubricating compositions have been investigated by standard testing methods (ASTM D 4172-94; ASTM D 6425-99). The surfaces and new-surface layers of the friction zones of specimens have been investigated by Auger spectroscopy; the penetration of atoms of copper and molybdenum, which are components of additives, into the metal matrix has been established.
