The methods were offered to control solidification of welds in welding of single-crystal nickel alloys, and optimal variants of parameters for solidification control were selected to ensure preset structure and crystallography of the welded joints made by electron beam welding. New rutile electrodes of the E-10Kh25N13G2 type were developed for a.c. welding of high-alloy chrome-nickel steels and dissimilar joints. Composition of 1.8-2.0 mm dia. self-shielding wire of the PP-ANV grade was improved, and stability of the arc, including under the water, was investigated. A new generation of equipment and technology were developed for narrow-gap electroslag welding and surfacing of metal with a cross-section of up to 400 mm. The software package was elaborated (together with Department # 34) to be used to evaluate the effect of the thermal state in the welding zone on the penetration depth in TIG and A-TIG welding, and to select the welding technology for repair of nuclear reactor piping components.
