The scintillation crystals Lu3Al5O12 and the crystals of the solid solutions (Lu1-xGdx)3Al5O12 (0<x<0.6) were grown by the method of HOC. The optical, luminescent and scintillation characteristics of the crystals of (Lu1-xGdx)3Al5O12:Ce3+ and (Lu1-xGdx)3Al5O12:Pr3+ solid solutions were studied. The substitution of Lu3+ by Gd3+ ions in the garnet crystal lattice was shown to lead to an essential decrease of the intensity of the matrix luminescence of the crystals.
