The technique was proved allowing to estimate the coolant radioactivity without sampling. Within it the CdZnTe sensors with rather low resolution capability can be used, even not resolving individual spectrum lines. It is shown, that through this technique it is possible to fix the initial stage of failure process of fuel rod cladding and prevent the contamination of the coolant by the components of nuclear fuel. A model specimen of the device for detecting gamma-radiation and monitoring the radionuclide activity in the first coolant loop of VVER reactor was manufactured and tested.
