Theoretical investigation of spectra of surface waves in centimeter range was performed. The fundamental role of three-wave interactions in forming of spectral energy balance was shown. The results of field studies demonstrate that the wave breaking lengths and lifetimes distributions obey exponential law. Normalized radar cross-section of whitecaps linearly decreases with increasing of breaking crest length. The results of investigation of sea surface parameters forming radar signal are presented. Influence of three-wave interactions on the process of forming of short wind wave spectrum is considered. Results of experimental research of distribution of geometrical characteristics of breaking waves and features of their manifestation in radar backscattering. Approach to identification of sea surface containment using radar data is considered. Dataset of Landsat satellite images from 1986 to 2009 year is analyzed to determine the regions with the most intensively varying coastline. The examination of images allowed to reveal essential coastline variability. The North-West Crimean coastline was shown to have strong changeability. Quantitative characteristics were obtained and relationship between sea shore changes and environmental impact and anthropogenic activities was established. It was shown experimentally that using of two radar transmit-receive polarizations gives an opportunity to recognize surface films by means of radar data. The results obtained can be used as additional criteria to identify sea surface pollutions in radar image analysis. The results obtained can serve as a basis for development of physically grounded models of radar backscattering from the sea surface and following ocean parameters retrieval using radar remote sensing.
