Chapter 2. Glass forming ability of the Al-TM-RE melts and proceses of formation of Al-nanocomposites under heating of amorphous phases. popup.stage_title Head Tkatch Victor Ivanovich, Registration Date 18-03-2010 Organization A.A. Galkin Physics and Engineering Institute of National Academy of Science of the Ukraine popup.description2 Relations between liquid, amorphous and nanocomposite structures. Establishment of the effect of thermal prehistory of Al-Ni-(La, Gd)-Si melts on glass forming ability, thermal stability of amorphous phases, nanocrystallization processes and mechanical properties. X-ray diffractometry, optical microscopy, measurements of electrical resistance and microhardness. It was found that melt superheating results in the structural changes in amorphous phases which owing to which both thermal stability and strengthening effect due to formation of Al nanocrystals were enhanced. The parameters of the nanocrystallization process were determined and it was shown that thermal stability of amorphous phases was governed by the effective diffusion coefficient. It was concluded that superheat of melts was available for enhancement of characteristics and of both amorphous phases and nanophase composites in Al-based alloys.
