The purposes of this work are the following: to develop and improve the methods of canning and restoration of rare editions, improvement of physical and chemical properties of paper and maintenance of authenticity of documents by diminishing of the negative factors influence. Realizing of restorative measures is due to new methods and equipment. Research method: statistical analysis of qualimetrical, ecological monitoring and laboratory researches on material basis of editions.The state of rare editions depends not only on the terms of their storage (microclimate of book-stocks, sanitary, hygenic and light modes) but also on composition and terms of manufacturing the material basis. Consequently these factors must be taken into account at planning measures for protecting documents from a damage and destruction. To optimize the defence processes for the books published at the end of 19th century it is necessary to take into account the terms of their storage in the Library, to improve the methods and inculcate them to practice. Thus, the experience of leading conservation cenrtes was studied, as well as literature on restoration of documents on different material basis (paper, parchment etc.). Bibliographic descriptions of publications were done, recommendations are formed to implement prophylactic measures. The paper's light bleaching was conducted.
