In spite of the fact that the characteristics of such standards are worse now than the characteristics of the best existing frequency standards based on the single ions and atoms, there is the steady interest in them due to their relative cheapness, small size, simplicity of construction, reliability, etc. The solution of the project task made it possible to improve the accuracy of optical frequency standards on the vibrational-rotational transitions of the methane and iodine molecules. An important component of the project was the search for the new reference points with a higher quality factor (compared to the current level), the spectroscopic investigation with the limiting resolution, the creation of the equipment for this purpose, the precision measuring the absolute frequencies of the transitions in the visible and infrared spectrum using the femtosecond optical clock for accurate definition of the values of molecular constants, and the development of methods for the registration of non-linear optical resonances and the frequency stabilization of lasers by such resonances.
