At the first stage of the project implementation, the model species were selected: the sphaeriid mollusks among the invertebrates; the genus Barbus (fishes), the brown frogs (ranid amphibians), the lizards Lacerta agilis and Lacerta viridis (reptiles), three species of the order Strigiformes (birds), and the genera Spermophilus and Marmota (mammals) among the vertebrates. The key concepts of biodiversity, particularly phyto- and florobiodiversity, were analyzed on the basis of published evidence. The levels of studying the fitobiodiversity and its hierarchical units were characterized. A conservation strategy for phyto- and florobiodiversity was analyzed.
