A.Romodanov, AMS of Ukraine" popup.description2 The research shows that the pathogenesis of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is characterized by progressive course and by the evolution of secondary brain lesions, that significantly worsens the functional outcome of trauma. The substantial factors of such course are the development of autoimmune reactions and delayed apoptosis of neural cells. It is shown that TBI is characterized by disorganization of hippocampal cytoarchitectonics, development of destructive and dystrophic changes of all the elements of nervous tissue (neurons, glia, capillaries), presence of the prominent neurological deficit, cognitive deficit characterized by persistent anterograde amnesia with a posttraumatic decline of spatial memory and learning, and also disturbances of exploratory behavior and emotionality, that reflects a presence of enhanced level of stress and anxiety. The research shows that gene therapy-mediated synthesis of apolipoprotein E prevents the development of TBI-induced structural and functional changes. Results of research have a positive scientific and practical value, as an accumulation of knowledge in this area will facilitate the development of more effective methods for the treatment of TBI.
