The foundation of the quality and cost definition of black diamonds with natural and treated colour. Methods of the research: searching-analytical, optical, ontogenetical, X-ray spectrometry. Results of the work: analytical review of the black diamonds origin sources and their black colour nature, the connection of the natural black colour with the diamond morphological features and the mechanism of its creation; the artificial colour improvement techniques (black colour development), the improvement diagnostic features; and preliminary researches of the treated natural diamonds and their imitations (black muassanite, muassanite with metallic silicon).
