The methods of the research are the analysis of different information sources and laboratory researches. The formulation of the diagnostic signs and clear descriptions of the minerals and rocks used as semiprecious stones and their imitations is done in accordance with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution № 512 "On general classification and cost estimation of natural stones" dated 27.07.1994, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolution № 827 "On confirmation of the lists of minerals of national and local value" dated 12.12.1994. The results of the scientific research are applied in the SGCU for expert examinations, giving consultations and explanations to the semiprecious stones market operators, and the "Attestation and expert examination of the semiprecious stones" course methodical manual new release preparation. The forecasting assumptions of the research object development is the creating of the new methods of the semiprecious stones diagnostics.
