Aim of research is to select the sources of morpho-biological and economic features, to breed on their basis high productive varieties with the increased feed quality, evenness of vegetative mass formation by the cycles of cutting or pasturing. Methods of research are introduction, hybridization, polycross, selection. According to results of researches harvesting and estimation of 70 collection variety samples of bird's-foot trefoil of different groups of ripening and ways of use are carried out. 7 of them are singled out by the complex of valuable breeding characteristics. Perspective initial material for further breeding is obtained. Varieties Helon and Tertsiy were selected and submitted for the state trial in 2010. Variety Helon provides formation of dry matter - 10,3-11,5, seed - 0,43-0,58 t/ha. Protein content in dry matter is 21,8 and cellulose - 24,1 %. Its type of use is hay-pasturing. It is drought and frost resistant. It is recommended for cultivation in the zones of Polissya, Forest-Steppe and Steppe. Variety Tertsiy provides formation of dry matter yield of 9,5-10,5 and seed - 0,4-0,5 t/ha. It is late ripening. Its type of use is hay-pasturing. It is drought and frost resistant.
