Object: to find, develop and refine methods of conservation and restoration of rare books from Library's collections; to improve the physical and chemical properties of paper and preserve the authenticity of documents. To ensure the safety of documents by reduction of negative factors, implement restoration work using new and improved techniques. Method of study: statistical analysis of environmental monitoring and laboratory studies on preservation of the material basis of documents. Properties of rare editions largely depend on the material constituents, their conditions of manufacture and storage. The damage and destruction of dociments under these factors should be considered, as well as conditions of storage assets. The known methods were developed, improve and implemented in practice. The experience of leading restoration centers was studied, as well as prevention methods, current trends of theory and practice of restoration. The literature on conservation and restoration of documentary interest. Processed methods of restoration and conservation of monuments on paper, parchment with different degrees of damage. Bibliographic descriptions of publications, development of recommendations to implement practical preventive measures and restoration were compilied.
