Semenenko Institute of Geochemistry, mineralogy and Ore Formation popup.description2 Formations of the Volyn flood basalt province occurring in the Belarus, Ukraine and Poland were formed in the Vendian time. Gorbashi horizon of the Belarus correlates with Gorbashi suite in the lower part of the Volyn Series in Ukraine. Zabolottya suite of the Volyn Series correlates with lower part of the lower stratum of the Rataichitsy horizon in Belarus, Babino suite - with central part of the lower stratum of the Rataichitsy horizon, Luchichivska stratum of the Ratne suite - with upper part of the lower stratum of the Rataichitsy horizon; Zoryansky stratum of the Ratne suite should correlate with middle stratum of the acid volcanics of the Rataichitsy horizon while Yakushivski stratum of the Ratne suite - with upper stratum of the Rataichitsy horizon in Belarus. Following rock types were recognized: (1) basaltic picrites of the Gorbashi suite; (2) olivine basalts of the Zabolottya suite; (3) low-Ti high-Al basalts of the Babino suite; (4) low-Ti toleiite basalts of the Luchichivska stratum; (5) acid volcanites of the middle stratum of the Rataichitsy horizon; (6) high-Ti toleiite basalts of the Yakushivski stratum; (7) high-Ti dolerite and gabbro-dolerite bodies among sediments of the Polissya Series. Native copper mineralization in flood basalts of the Volyn area occurs virtually in all parts of its section and is hydrothermal by origin. Initial abundance of copper in basaltic melts was c. 120 ppm. During crystallization copper either entrained into Ti-magnetite or concentrated in the residual volcanic glass. Later during cooling of the basaltic flows copper was leached by hydrotherms and re-sedimented in the form of native copper.
